HISTORY OF ACME METALS, INC.
ACME Metals, Incorporated, based in Riverdale, Illinois, is the successor to the original ACME Steel Company which merged with Interlake Iron Company in 1964 to form Interlake Steel Corporation, subsequently named Interlake, Inc. ACME Steel Company was spun off as a separate company in 1986.
ACME Steel Company undertook a further reorganization in May, 1992 when ACME Metals, Incorporated was formed and became the parent of ACME Steel Comapny, and ACME Steel's former subsidiaries, ACME Packaging Corporation, Alpha Tube Corporation, and Universal Tool & Stamping Company, Inc. The Company's Common Stock had publicly traded on NASDAQ since 1986, but began trading on the New York Stock Exchange in May, 1996 under the symbol AMI. The Company's Common Stock has also Traded on the Toronto Stock Exchange since August, 1994 under the symbol AMK.
